In the 82nd minute, head coach Antonio Conte brought on Pedro for Eden Hazard in an attempt to salavage some hope with the scoreline fully tipped in Barcelona's favour.
As the Spaniard stood on the touch-line ready to come on, the Camp Nou crowd rose to their feet, applauding the forward who had been brought through their youth systems and had gone on to score 99 goals in 321 appearances before moving to the Premier League in search of a new challenge.
After the game, Pedro touched upon the moment: "The reception from the Camp Nou has been spectacular. I have to thank everyone".
The 30-year-old also wished his former club luck in the further stages of the competition, revealing: "Now [Chelsea] are eliminated, I hope Barca win the Champions League", before moving onto the possible penalty commited by defender Gerard Pique.
"From the bench, the penalty on Marcos [Alonso] seemed quite clear".
