Wilfried Zaha suffered what could have been a season-ending knee injury, but a miraculous recovery has left the Ivory Coast international looking likely to return to the starting XI soon.
"Wilf's had a ball at his feet for a while, training solo with the rehab people and the physios," said Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson.
"He joined in with the team today in an albeit modified session. He's well ahead of schedule, but it was a serious injury. It's a remarkable recovery. It will be a case of discussing with him, the doctor and the physios regarding when he's ready to come back. It's a major positive," he added, thinking ahead to his side's weekend clash with Chelsea.
In Zaha's absence, Palace have struggled in their creativity, winning none of their last seven league games. On Monday, the Eagles were the victims of a shock comeback from Jose Mourinho's inspired United side.
For Hodgson, the sooner Zaha returns to full fitness the better. "All teams rely upon their decisive players, their most valuable players," he said, in the knowledge that Zaha's presence could be crucial to his side's Premier League survival.
