Manchester City are said to be unhappy with the level of stewarding for the match, a local derby, with double the allocation for away fans due to it being a cup game.
It was a pressure-cooker atmosphere all through the game, with Pep Guardiola and Wigan manager Paul Cook having to be seperated in the tunnel at half time after the former took exception to Fabian Delph's red card.
Wigan chairman David Sharpe, speaking to BBC Breakfast, said: "The emotions of football can sometimes get the better of fans and that was evident last night. I don’t like to see what happened at the end of the game.”
