Xavi Hernandez left a void at Barcelona, one they have struggled to fill with costly signings which did not quite plan out. As one of the best midfielders to have ever graced the game, Xavi is greatly missed in that position at the Camp Nou.
And the truth is Xavi, who played almost 800 times for Barcelona over 17 seasons, does not believe his former club have found an appropriate replacement after his departure.
Now captain of Al Saad from Qatar, Xavi named his preferred midfielders in modern football, with no mention of any current Barca players.
He did, however, name Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, both at Real Madrid, as well a man who played at the Bernabeu, Mesut Ozil. Former Barcelona playmaker Thiago Alcantara did make the cut, along with a target for both La Liga giants: Marco Verratti.
