Silva was installed as Watford's new manager earlier this summer following a spell with Hull City and the Portuguese has revealed that he sounded out his fellow countryman before both moves.
When asked whether the two had spoke Silva replied: "Yes, we are friends."
"We have a very good relationship and of course he is one person who knows very, very well the competition, the Premier League."
"Before I came to Hull, of course we talked. Even when I needed to take the decision to join Watford, he was one of the persons I talked about my move," explained the 40-year-old.
The former Olympiacos boss was full of praise for Mourinho, calling him a "good person, a fantastic person."
The pair will lock horns on November 28 at Vicarage Road, with no doubt keen to get one over on his friend.
