'Sky Sports' claim that the Chelsea man has made it clear that a return to the Spanish capital is his priority after he was told that he was not in manager Antonio Conte's plans for the coming season.
Earlier this month, the Spanish international revealed that Antonio Conte had made the surprising decision to let him go this summer and it seems that the player has his heart set on a move back to his former club.
The Brazilian-born 28-year-old has always maintained that he wants to return to his former club someday. However, if Costa were to return to Atletico he would not be able to play until January as the club are currently banned from registering new players.
In an interview following Spain's draw with Colombia earlier this month Costa said "I am a Chelsea player, but they don't want me there". This seems strange when we consider that Costa scored 20 goals in 35 games last season as Chelsea won the Premier League title. Though it is understood that the pair do not have the best working relationship, following Costa's well publicised training ground row last January following supposed interest from China.
