Real won the game 3-1 but the biggest talking point was Ronaldo's dismissal. The Portuguese was sent off for two yellow cards, the first for taking his shirt off in celebration and the second for an alleged dive.
Ronaldo was bemused by the deicison and even pushed referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea before leaving the pitch, something which could prove costly.
Following the game, Zidane confirmed that Real would be appealing the decision, telling the press: 'We played a great game but I am annoyed by Cristiano's sending off.
'Perhaps it wasn't a penalty but the red card is a little harsh. We can't change it, but we'll try and make sure he plays on Wednesday.'
Real captian Sergio Ramos was equally unimpressed by the decision.
'I was far away, but I think it was a piece of play in which (Ronaldo) lost his balance, rather than feigning anything,' he explained.
'It could be appealed. Sending off a key player with 10 minutes remaining of a Clasico in which we've given our all is something which needs to be evaluated and thought about.'
Whether the appeal will be successful is another quesiton altogether.
