Real are aware of the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, at the ages of 32 and 29 respectively, aren't getting any younger and as such they are looking for a striker who the pair can hand over the torch to long-term at the Bernabeu. The criteria they are looking for are: young but experienced, high-profile and obviously talented.
Those criteria have caused Real to look towards Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi. The 24-year-old's record of 82 goals in 148 games for Inter has caused plenty of people to sit up and take notice in recent years, with Real seemingly one of them.
The former Sampdoria man has four goals in two games so far this term, fresh off the back of scoring 24 in 34 Serie A games last time out.
Spanish publication 'OK Diario' reports that Inter are aware of the interest in the Argentine and are hoping to tie the player down to a new contract with an increased release clause of €150m.
Icardi briefly passed through Barcelona's famed La Masia academy as a youngster but it is thought that this factor would have any impact on Real's interest in the player.
