Despite potentially becoming the third most expensive goalkeeper of all time, behind Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon and Manchester City's new recruit Ederson, Peter Shilton believes that whatever Everton spend on Jordan Pickford will be money well spent.
As report by 'BBC Sport', Shilton believes that these quantities of money "should be spent on goalkeepers", citing their importance to the team and in Pickford's case, his youth.
Shilton knows a thing or two about exorbitant fees for goalkeepers, having once been the world's most expensive goalkeeper himself when Leicester City paid Stoke City £325,000 for his services in 1974.
BBC Radio 5 live's chief football reporter Ian Dennis claims that the deal will cost the 'Toffees' £22 million up front, with a further £8 million in potential add-ons. The 23-year-old is expected to sign a 5-year deal.
Pickford's former boss Simon Grayson, who managed him during a brief loan spell at Preston in 2015 believes the stopper is destined for big things. When quizzed by 'BBC Sport' he asserted that "he has got all the ingredients.... and there is still room to develop" and believes that Pickford would "thrive" at a club like Everton.
The Sunderland man's stats certainly stand up to scrutiny, with only fellow Burnley's Tom Heaton making more saves in the Premier League this season.
