Romelu Lukaku will wear the No.9 shirt for Manchester United next season. The Belgian had been expected to take the No.10 shirt vacated by Wayne Rooney given that it is the same number he wore at Everton however that is not the case.
United's latest big-money signing has revealed that he asked Zlatan Ibrahimovic (the shirt's previous owner) if it was okay for him to wear the No. 9.
Lukaku told ESPN: "I asked (Ibrahimovic's) permission for No 9. I want to thank him for allowing me."
The 24-year-old will be hoping to replace Ibrahimovic goals as well as his shirt number.
