Despite registering 19 shots (six on target) on the Manchester United goal on Saturday, Liverpool could not find the breakthrough they were hoping for.
Their only real chance came when Matip brought out a superb first-half save from David de Gea, but after that the Spanish goalkeeper was hardly tested.
It means the Reds have scored just twice in their last three matches, a poor ratio that Lovren admits needs to change.
'We show every game we are better and better and we are really confident within the team,' the defender said. 'Hopefully we can keep this momentum and find the net.
'We need just to stay hungry and keep focused on our own work. We just need to be a little more cruel in front of goal.
'Big teams don't need many chances - from one chance they can score a goal so we need to be a bit more 'dirty' in front of goal.'
One positive for Jurgen Klopp's side, however, is that they managed to keep their first clean sheet since the 4-0 humiliation of Arsenal at the end of August.
