'Batshuayi not good enough for Chelsea'

Striker Michy Batshuayi is not good enough for Chelsea, according to former star Ray Wilkins.

Batshuayi joined the Blues from Marseille in a £33 million deal in the summer but has struggled for form since his transfer, falling far behind striker Diego Costa in the pecking order.

The Belgium international has yet to play 90 minutes in the Premier League, and has scored just once in the top flight, in a 2-1 win over Watford.

Batshuayi also netted in the 4-1 FA Cup victory over Peterborough United, but Wilkins remains distinctly unimpressed with the 23-year-old.

"No, in my humble opinion," Wilkins told Sky Sports when asked if Batshuayi could make a true impact at Stamford Bridge.

"Yesterday when I watched him (against Peterborough) he was like a guy starved of playing for the first team, and he was out to impress so badly. 

"He really wanted to do well - he ran everywhere, his ball control was pretty poor when it was played up to him.

"I don't think when you've got Costa in the type of form he's in, that Batshuayi would be the answer to come in.”

Costa has scored a total of 14 goals in 19 games, with Chelsea top of the league, and Wilkins wonders whether Batshuayi has the temperament to succeed.

"When you come into big clubs it's not only about your footballing ability, it's how you handle the mental capacity," Wilkins added.

"When you're at a big club and you have to win, sometimes players can't take the mental side of it on board and they really struggle. I think Batshuayi is a prime example of that."
