Aston Villa are on the verge of completing the signing of Ahmed Elmohamady from Hull City, with the deal expected to go through in the next 48 hours.

The Egyptian defender has returned from Hull's pre-season tour as he is set for talks with Aston Villa.

Steve Bruce's side have activated a release clause in the defender's contract and it would be the third time Bruce has signed Elmohamady after bringing him to Sunderland and Hull earlier in his career.

Aston Villa have been active in the transfer market, signing former Chelsea defender John Terry on a free and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a season-long loan from Manchester.
